Mission Statement:

Florence Neurosurgery and Spine Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive neurosurgical care in a compassionate and professional environment.

We pledge to our patients that we will place their needs first and foremost as we help them to confront potentially complex and even life threatening neurosurgical disease processes. We are committed to maintaining our own continuing education as well as offering state of the art neurosurgical techniques. We will work along side our medical colleagues, always advocating for our patients, hoping to improve the quality of their lives.

Meet our talented Physicians and Providers

Andrew Rhea, MD

Neurosurgeon

Dr. Andrew Rhea graduated from the University of Texas in 1978 and earned his medical doctorate from the University of Texas Medical Branch. He completed a general surgery internship at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas and completed his Neurosurgery residency at the University of Colorado in Denver. His special interests include Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.

Dr. Rhea is past Chief of Staff at McLeod Regional Medical Center. Dr Rhea is Board Certified in Neurosurgery. He is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He has been practicing Neurosurgery in Florence, S.C. for over 25 years.

Dr. Rhea has been active in the Florence community and is a past chair of the Florence Symphony Orchestra. Dr Rhea is married to Mrs. Susan Rhea, a Registered Nurse.

William Naso, MD

NEUROSURGEON

Dr. William Naso graduated from Davidson College in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Political Science. He received his Medical Doctorate from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1990.

He completed a General Surgery internship and Neurosurgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston where he was Chief Resident in Neurosurgery1995-1996. He has been practicing Neurosurgery in Florence, South Carolina for over 20 years. His special interests include Brain Tumor Surgery, Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Spinal Surgery.

Dr. Naso is a past President of the South Carolina Association of Neurological Surgeons (SCANS). He is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at The University of South Carolina School of Medicine and has been active in medical student education. He serves as the Medical Director of Neurosurgical Services at McLeod Regional Medical Center. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and is Board Certified in Neurosurgery.

Dr. Naso is married to Dr. Nicolette Naso, a Cardiologist in Florence. They have three children. He is active in the Florence-Darlington community and has served on multiple local and statewide boards.

Barbara Sarb, DO

INTERVENTIONAL PAIN MANAGEMENT

Dr. Barbara Sarb is the Medical Coordinator for the Interventional Pain Management Department at Florence Neurosurgery and Spine Center. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Physiology, from Michigan State University in 1987. She received her medical doctorate from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1991 and completed her transitional internship and residency at the Botsford General Hospital in Michigan. She is Board Certified in Neurology and Psychiatry with special emphasis in Interventional Pain Management.

Dr. Sarb joined the Florence Neurosurgery and Spine Center in 2015. She has special interests in neuromodulation therapy for chronic pain and radiorequency ablation for mechanical low back pain. 

Devanand Dominique, MD

NEUROSURGEON

Dr. Devanand Dominique received his Medical Doctorate in 1992 from University College Dublin, The National University of Ireland in Dublin, Ireland. He completed a General Surgery internship and Neurosurgery residency at Temple University Hospital Philadelphia in 1999. He was Chief Resident in Neurosurgery1997-1999. In 2000 he completed a Fellowship in Spinal Surgery at Toronto Western Hospital. University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Dr. Dominique served as Clinical Instructor in Neurosurgery from 1999-2000 Division of Neurosurgery Department of Surgery University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada; Assistant Professor of Surgery (Neurosurgery) 2001-2002 at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine; Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery 2003 –2008 Temple University School of Medicine; and Director of the Neurosurgery Spinal Fellowship 2007 –2008 at Temple University Hospital. From 2009-2018 Dr. Dominique was in private practice in Pennsylvania. He joined the Florence Neurosurgery and Spine Center in 2018.

Dr. Dominique has special interests in minimally invasive and complex spinal disorder surgery. His clinical interests include spinal robotics, minimally invasive surgery, spinal endoscopy, motion preservation surgery, cervical spine surgery and lumbar minimally invasive same day surgery for herniated discs and lumbar stenosis.

He was recognized as a Distinguished Spinal Surgeon by the Indian Neuro Spinal Surgery Society in 2010. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and is Board Certified in Neurosurgery. Originally from Ontario, Canada, Dr. Dominique is married to Mrs. Ophelia Dominique, a Registered Nurse, and has four children.

Chadley Runyan, MD

SPORST MEDICINE AND SPINE CARE SPECIALIST

Dr. Chadley Runyan graduated from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. He received his Medical Doctorate from the University of Toledo College of Medicine in 1999.

He completed a Family Medicine Residency at the University of Michigan in 2002. In 2003 he completed a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at Marshall University. He was an Assistant Professor of Sports Medicine at Marshall University School of Medicine and served as Assistant Team Physician for Marshall University Department of Athletics 2003-2006. From 2007-2012 he practiced in Great Falls Montana where he served as Team Physician for the University of Great Falls as well as Team Physician for the Pioneer Team of the Chicago White Sox. He has been practicing Primary Care Sports Medicine in Florence, South Carolina since 2012.

Dr. Runyan is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. His special interests include management of sports concussion, non-operative spine disorders, and the treatment and rehabilitation of the “Spine Athlete.”

Dr. Runyan is Board Certified in Family Medicine with an Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. He is a Credentialed ImPACT Consultant (CIC). He is active in medical education and has been involved in Resident education through the McLeod Family Medicine Residency program. Dr. Runyan is married to Mrs. Mandy Runyan and has two children.

Wade Rowell, NP-C

Neurosurgery and Spine Care

Wade Rowell is a Nurse Practitioner who partners closely with Dr. Andrew Rhea. He first attended the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 2004. Wade then pursued his career in nursing, working in the Trauma Surgical Intensive Care Unit at McLeod Regional Medical Center. He has worked primarily in neurosurgical settings, and began working with Dr. Rhea in 2009. While working full time at Florence Neurosurgery and Spine, Wade completed his Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati in 2015. Wade is a Board Certified Adult Nurse Practitioner. He is involved in the entire continuum of care of Dr. Rhea’s patients and you will see him in the office, the operating room and the hospital.

Catherine Soriano, PA-C

Neurosurgery and Spine Care

Catherine Soriano received a BS in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2008. She served as a Clinical Research Associate at UNC Hospitals from 2008-2013, within the Department of Hematology/Oncology and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina with a Masters in Physician Assistant Sciences, and is board certified. Catherine also recieved a fellowship in Interprofessional Studies through MUSC. She joined Florence Neurosurgery and Spine in 2015. She enjoys traveling internationally and is also an avid Equestrian.

Maggie Elizabeth Moore-Price, MPT

PHYSICAL THERAPY

Liz Moore-Price received her Bachelors of Exercise Science with an emphasis in motor development from the University of South Carolina in 2004. She received her Master’s in Rehabilitation Science emphasis in physical therapy in 2007. She is a licensed physical therapist and is certified in dry needling. Liz has been the Director of Physical Therapy Services at the Florence Neurosurgery and Spine Center since 2017.

John Gartung, PA-C

Spine Care and Interventional Pain Management

John Gartung graduated from State University of New York at Oneonta - Oneonta, NY in May 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He received his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Albany Medical College - Albany, NY in 2005. Since 2007 Mr. Gartung has focused on the diagnosis, management, and treatment of patients with spinal disorders. He also has extensive experience in interventional pain management. He is Board Certified as a Physician Assistant through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Mr. Gartung joined Florence Neurosurgery and Spine Center in March 2017. He lives in Florence with his wife Ann and their 3 children.

Kristen Tindal NP-C

Neurosurgery and Spine Care

Kristen Tindal received her Masters in Science in Nursing from the University of South Carolina in 2018 and is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She had extensive experience as an Emergency Room nurse at McLeod Regional Medical Center prior to joining the Florence Neurosurgery and Spine Center. She received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Francis Marion University and her Associate’s of Science in Nursing from Florence-Darlington Technical College.  She is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau nursing honor society.  She resides in Florence with her two children.

We provide neurosurgery, spine, interventional pain management, and physical therapy services at the Florence Neurosurgery and Spine Center. Our facility is equipped with the latest diagnostic and imaging technology, including:

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • Computer Tomography (CT)
  • Neurodiagnostic Studies (EMG/NCS)

Located at 1204 E. Cheves Street, our state-of-the-art facility boasts over 16,400 square feet of medical office space which includes the Neurosurgery and Spinal Clinics, Interventional Pain Management Suites, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Gym, Durable Medical Equipment, 2 Procedure Rooms, as well as our imaging facilities.
